Well, an instance is everything that is separated from the open world and where you can have multiple versions of on the same server, erm shard. Examples are PvE dungeons, PvP warfronts and the initial zones (terminus). At least during game release I can remember being on a different initial zone instance than my friends, with a loading screen after grouping up to get to the same instance. The Instance page should therefore contain information about the open-world concept vs. separated instances, while mentioning that similar PvP and PvE encounters can be found in the open world as well (e.g. at normal or expert/raid rift events). We might not need to put every page in :Category:Instances and :Category:Dungeons. Maybe make the latter a subcategory of the former and put the warfront map pages (if they exist?) in :Category:Warfronts which is a subcategory if :Category:Instances as well. --Mardur 14:55, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Dungeon vs. Instance[]

I see we have an article for instance and also for dungeon. How do reckon we should split the two up? They seem a bit redundant today, although that won't necessarily be the case when the game is released. --Ciovala Talk 20:24, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

They can perhaps be separated into Dungeon, and Instanced Dungeon. Devs have hinted at the existence of non-instanced dungeons and this would be a efficient way to separate them. --Paradosi Talk 20:24, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

Yeah I was thinking something like that, but it's just very early days I suppose. Mainly came up since there are tons of locations, etc. Perhaps, for now, the dungeon page should just describe what a dungeon is and not list them? I mean, do we want above-ground, open instances to be called 'dungeons'? Or just underground things, etc. --Ciovala Talk 07:27, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

For now, since it's still alpha the two types can just be listed in one section. Beta should reveal alot more information on how dungeons work and such, and they can be divided then. They might do a bit of how EQ had dungeons, but that's just speculation... we'll just have to wait. --Paradosi Talk 20:24, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

Sounds good! I'll edit the dungeon article to just redirect to the instance one for now I think - that sounds like a reasonable compromise! --Ciovala Talk 09:47, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

Unless it turns out to be a massive difference I think there should be one big article for all dungeons in general. It would not go into specifics about each instance.--Cultiststeve 11:22, 10 January 2011 (CST)

Merger[]

Last chance. I vote to merge dungeon and instance or make this page descriptive of a dungeon and not have a list of instances. --Ciovala

 • Merge please asap, it's confusing. Non-instanced dungeons/raids are most probably rifts/zone events anyway --Aryss

We might not need to put every page in Category:Instances and Category:Dungeons. Maybe make the latter a subcategory of the former and put the warfront map pages (if they exist?) in Category:Warfronts which is a subcategory if Category:Instances as well. --Mardur 14:55, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
