TODO List[]
The following is a TODO list for this article.:
- Add some more flavor text for the general paragraph?
- Add some general pictures other then icons (e. g. in-game appearance of lodes)
- Add information to table (missing skill levels, metals locations etc.)
If you plan to work on any of these points please create a seperate section on this talk page instead of adding countless points below this list.
I don't see how smelted metals play into any recipes yet nor have I found any information about those. If they are relics from an old version of the game please remove them, otherwise I will rework the page without regarding them as currently in-game thus leaving them out. --4ndreas 07:01, 3 January 2011 (CST)
Reverting edits[]
I want to see reasons, as we don't know if people had a work-in-progress going on, etc. Although if changes in question are major, it's maybe good to show on a Sandbox page or the beta site first perhaps. --Ciovala Talk 15:33, 3 February 2011 (CST)
- When I add links to locations, fix typos, cleanup category dependencies and fix singular/plural confusion on category names, that is totally worth being reverted without specifying any reason. /ironyoff My reasoning behind categories is the following: Categories are organized in tree structures (Category:Mining is a subcategory of Category:Gathering which is a subcategory of Category:Profession) and each page is linked into the tree at exactly one position (minor exception being overview pages that might be linked to their subcategories as well when they describe details about that subtype). The page Mining is in Category:Mining, which implies gathering and profession. It is not necessary to put a page into each category and its parent-categories and their parent-categories and any other category that may have a page talking about something that may be related to something in this page. And Mining is NOT a Category:Crafting profession and does therefor NOT belong to that category. Do you put a page about combat into Crafting, because it mentions that weapons can be crafted? The gathering professions are somewhat related to crafting (not the profession but the process), but that is covered by putting this page into Category:Recipes. That Mining is a type of Gathering and a Profession results in the links to the according pages in the very first sentence. Oh wait, someone removed those links again. In short, the Mining page is related to
- Category:Mining which makes Gathering and Profession obsolete, while Gathering excludes Crafting (the profession)
- Category:Recipes as it contains some recipes
- Category:Metal, Category:Ore for describing their usage
- Category:Game Terms for describing general game mechanics
- I can see the confusion between the crafting process (making items from other items) and the crafting professions (6 different profession skills). But when I want to find pages who mention the word 'craft', I can use the search function. Besides, Profession should not be in Category:Recipes, as it does not contain any. --Mardur 10:17, 4 February 2011 (CST)
- Personally, I agree with your ideas, Mardur. Right now we have tons of overlapping categories, where we should really have subcategories inside main ones. This is the case among most of the profession pages as well as the armor and item pages. --Ciovala Talk 16:04, 5 February 2011 (CST)
- Further to this, I don't think it should be in Category:Ore etc. for example, as people looking in that category would (at least I'd hope) have some understanding of what they've after and Mining shouldn't be in there. Category:Ore should be a sub cat of Category:Mining and Category:Mining should be on this page at the very least. I also don't see a problem with adding the SMW flags on. They can easily be removed if it causes problems down the track. Maygus talk • cont 20:13, 5 February 2011 (CST)
- Thinking about it, I agree that the material categories are not good for the profession pages. It should be sufficient when the recipe pages and the material pages link back to the according profession page. I will try to clean up the profession pages. What SMW properties did you think of? I would not add any properties about recipes here, as you run into lots of problems with multiple recipes per page. Properties are annotations for the total page, not for parts of it. --Mardur 07:39, 8 February 2011 (CST)

Profession Level Ranges[]
There are two different level bracket sets for each type of ore, one for gathering the ore and one for forging it into the bar. At some point you will not get any leveling from forging the metal, while gathering more ore of that type still increases your level. As gathering is the major way to level the profession (and the only way when you get closer to the next type of ore), that one should be used in the table instead. I will try to get this data, as I rerolled mining. --Mardur 15:46, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
