Future contents[]

This page should explain the general purpose of Professions aswell as differences between Gathering and Crafting professions.

It may even be used to merge the currently seperate gathering and crafting pages. To that respect the sidebar Mouseover selection for Character links should also link here instead of just crafting.

Also the Profession Grade table I used for Apothecary and Butchery may be moved here. For now I will polish up the Professions about which I do have sufficient data. Feel free to create this page in the mean time. --4ndreas 04:22, 3 January 2011 (CST)

  • Trainer limitations (novice trainer can only teach novice grade skill) should be explained once on the profession page, and not on every single subpage (which may just say you need a xxx trainer to learn the xxx profession). --Mardur 08:24, 8 February 2011 (CST)
  • This page should explain the general concept of 'material tracking' in the gathering section (move from Foraging). And that you need to use a certain device (loom, forge, workbench) to craft. --Mardur 08:24, 8 February 2011 (CST)

Naming[]

Lets have the official pages be things like 'Weaponsmithing'. However, the pages like 'forager' 'weaponsmith' etc. should have a redirect to the 'ing pages. --Ciovala Talk 07:50, 16 January 2011 (CST)

Adding a list of other items that can be obtained from Butchery[]

I think we should add another table that lists all non-hide items that may be obtained through butchering dead beasts. I will try to gather some information and icons in the future. --4ndreas Talk 09:03, 27 January 2011 (CST)

Categories[]

For now, I placed all the 9 profession pages in Category:Gathering and Category:Crafting (whichever applies, as well as Category:Recipes). The question is, do we need the further refined subcategories? E.g. Category:Butchery to contain Butchery, Hide and Leather, as well as any butchering recipes when they get their own pages? --Mardur 09:31, 8 February 2011 (CST)

Visualizing Workflow[]

A graphic showing all involved components and steps is nice to visualize the gathering and crafting process. It also shows the connection between the different professions. --Mardur 13:47, 8 February 2011 (CST)

Profession workflow concept

What does the figure show?

  • Items and components involved in professions (purple)
  • Gathering and crafting processes (light blue), specifying required devices (loom, etc), weapon/armor-smithing probably needs a device as well, which one?
  • I have no idea about the required components for crafting, as I did not check out the recipes

Further ideas:

  • (Cloth armor should be sorted to the top)
  • Specify classes that can use those items (especially for armor and weapons)
  • Add boxes for special components (bottle, oil, grinding stone, flux, etc)

Loosing professions[]

Something I came to the wiki to find, but its not documented yet. Wat happens if you give up a profession to learn another? Is all your levelling and recipes lost? I'm thinking most people will start with three gathering professions, then will drop one or two to get crafting ones; what happens if you later want to pick up one of your gathering professions again? Do you restart from scratch? --Eliroth 16:35, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
